What Is Podiatry?
Podiatry is an Allied Health Profession in Australia that requires a tertiary (Bachelor) degree. Generally Podiatry has been known to manage dermatological ailments that affect the feet, however, Podiatrists diagnose and treat all conditions involving the foot and lower limb. Common foot and lower limb pathologies that are often managed by a Podiatrist: musculoskeletal pathology, foot/leg pain, sports injuries, dermatological conditions (including nail and skin care), pressure problems from ill fitting footwear, foot wounds and high risk foot care, vascular(circulation), neurological (peripheral nerves) and children’s feet/lower limbs, including walking concerns. Podiatrists liaise with Doctors and other allied health professionals, can request medical imaging and often perform foot health assessments.
